Updated: 2019–07–22
A fireman and a woman resident got injured when fire engulfed five houses in Sta. Cruz, Manila on Sunday evening.
The fire started before 11 p.m. on Zulu Street and reached the second alarm before it was put out at 12:31 a.m. Monday.
Bureau of Fire Protection Station 5 commander Senior Inspector Hector Agadulin said a fireman had a hand injury.
The woman resident identified as Lynda Mangulabnao, 58, had first-degree burn on the forehead. She owns the house where the fire started.
Her companions in the house were all safe but they were all brought to UST Hospital to be checked.
Neighbors tried but were not able to save much of their belongings.
The BFP said the fire started at a room on the second floor of the Mangulabnao house.
It then spread to the four houses beside it which were all made of light materials.
Firemen had difficulty getting to the area due to the overhead cables, parked cars, and narrow street.
Only the mini pumper trucks were able to get on Zulu Street itself.
Agadulin said damage to property is expected to reach P300,000.
Authorities are still investigating the cause of the fire. —KG, GMA News
