Fire hits bag factory in Korat

NAKHON RATCHASIMA: A fire broke out at a factory making bags and wallets in Phimai district, consuming 15 computers and some products for export on Sunday, police said.
Pol Capt Payungsak Yangklang, a Phimai police duty officer, said the fire started at about 11am in the office of Unison Pan (Asia) Company Limited in tambon Nai Muang.
Firefighters from Phimai Municipality extinguished the flames in about 30 minutes. Fifteen computers and a quantity of finished products for export were destroyed, but the firefighters were able to prevent the fire from spreading to other parts of the factory housing machines for producing bags and wallets. Nobody was hurt.
Sawat Suedee, 49, a factory foreman, said no workers were in the factory as it was a holiday. While he and security guards were sitting in front of a sentry box, they saw smoke rising from the office’s roof. They went inside the office and tried to douse the flames with chemical extinguishers, but to no avail.
Mr Sawat said he then called the police and firefighters from the municipality for help.
Police were investigating the cause of the fire and assessing the damage.
