Bus catches fire along EDSA

A passenger bus caught fire while crossing the southbound part of Epifanio delos Santos Avenue (EDSA) before dawn Wednesday.
No one was initially reported hurt in the incident as the bus conductor and driver managed to get the bus’ passengers out, radio dzBB reported.
The report said the “Mayami Transport” bus (PWJ-181) caught fire near the Ortigas area, shortly after midnight Tuesday.
It quoted conductor Joey Lagunday as saying he saw smoke from the back of the bus, and saw the flames when he took a closer look.
He then had driver Joselito Recamara and at least 10 passengers of the bus get off. The fire was quickly put out, the report said.
The fire occurred hours after a fire hit the sixth floor of a hotel in Pasig City Tuesday night.
A separate dzBB report said the fire at the Oakwood Premier Joy~Nostalg Center Manila along ADB Avenue in Pasig started at 8 p.m. at the fitness center at the sixth floor.
Initial investigation showed the fire stemmed from an overheating blower in the fitness center’s jacuzzi. The fire was put out before 9 p.m., the report said.
Staff said guests at the hotel ran to nearby establishments, while others were evacuated through the back of the hotel. –KG, GMA News
