35 shanties gutted, many left homeless

GURUGRAM: A fire broke out at a in Sector 112’s Bajghera area in the early hours of Saturday, destroying over 35 shanties. The fire left a number of people homeless but no one was injured.
The bursting of a gas cylinder aggravated the fire that broke out in one of the shanties, police said. At 1am on Saturday, a shanty was spotted to have caught fire. The blaze soon spread to other houses and three LPG cylinders also exploded, officials said.
Some of the residents called the fire brigade and four fire tenders were pressed into service. The blaze was brought under control after one-and-a-half hour. “The fire tenders were rushed to the spot and they managed to control the fire from spreading to nearby areas,” said fire officer IS Kashyap.
The fire fighters first removed cylinders from the shanties and it helped in preventing a bigger damage, said the officer, adding that they are trying to find out the cause of the fire.
