RUDRAPUR: A massive fire broke out in a bakery on Galla Mandi road in the early hours of Friday. Although no one was hurt, the total loss is estimated to be around Rs 25 lakh. Based on a preliminary enquiry, officials said a short circuit may have caused the fire.
According to police, Rajesh Popli, a resident of Main Market, owned the bakery shop and lived on the first floor of the same building with his family. On Thursday night, he closed the shop and went upstairs. The next morning, people noticed smoke coming out of the bakery and alerted Popli. The fire department was informed and as many as three fire tenders were pressed into service.
Nearby residents gathered in the area and attempted to douse the flames. Although no adjoining buildings were affected in the densely populated area, the entire shop was gutted beyond repair.
