INDORE: At least seven persons, including a boy and a girl, were injured when a fire broke out in a multi-storey residential apartment building in Alapura area on Thursday.
The fire started in the building at around 4.30 am in the parking lot and slowly spread to the first floor, fire brigade said.
Around eight two-wheelers parked in basement also caught fire.
As the flames covered the exit routes and the staircases, residents, who woke up after hearing the commotion, got trapped, the firemen said, adding that hydraulic ladders were deployed to rescue at least 14 victims.
Firemen managed to douse the fire after battling flames for over three hours.
At least seven people, including a six-year-old girl and a 10-year-old boy, were injured and rushed to the MY Hospital. Doctors at the hospital claimed that condition of an 18-year-old woman was critical. Two others have been admitted to the hospital, while others have been discharged after first aid.
Firemen were yet to ascertain the cause of the blaze, but suspect that it might have broke out due to short-circuit in the electricity distribution point of the building.
However, residents alleged that the fire might be the handiwork of miscreants, who set ablaze the two-wheelers – a crime that has been reported in the city on several occasions during night time.
