Fire in plastic chair factory in Shahdra, none hurt

Updated: 20190926

AGRA: A major fire broke out at a plastic chair factory in Shahdra, under Etmaddaula police station, early in the morning on Wednesday. The fire, which reportedly started due to a short circuit, soon spread over a large part of the factory and spread fear among neighbours.

Night shift workers who were present inside managed to escape. A dozen fire tenders that were pressed into service failed to control the fire, after which, additional tenders were requisitioned from the Kheria airbase.

The factory is owned by Kamla Nagar resident Pawan Kumar Agarwal. He informed that around 20 staffers were on night shift duty in the factory. The fire was detected at around 4am. Workers tried to control it, but within a few minutes, it spread across the campus and on to the two upper floors.

The first fire brigade tender reached at 5.10am. After assessing the intensity of fire, officials called for additional tenders. By 7.30am, a dozen tenders which had been put into service, were failing to control the flames. SSP Babloo Kumar, who had reached the spot by then, sought help from the Air Force. Till 10am, fire brigade and the team from the Air Force kept struggling to put it out. Finally, after around six hours of effort, the situation was brought under control after it suddenly began to rain.

Chief fire officer Akshay Ranjan Sharma said, “The fire at the plastic chair factory was of high intensity. We received the call for help at 5am, and rushed to the spot within 10 minutes. Our staff had to put in huge efforts to control the fire, which broke out due to a short circuit. Thankfully, no one was injured.”
