Kolkata: Residents rush out in middle of night as ground floor office catches fire
Updated: 2019–06–11
KOLKATA: Residents living in the upper floors of a three-storeyed building in Salt Lake woke up at the middle of night and had to rush out of their homes after a fire broke out at a ground floor office of the building early on Monday.
The incident happened at a three storeyed building CB block in Salt Lake around 2am on Monday. While two families stay on the upper floors of the building, the ground floor is occupied by a self-driven car rental firm. The fire had ravaged through the office, gutting it completely before three fire tenders could bring the blaze under control.
“It is still unclear how the fire had broken out. But it left the residents panicked who rushed out of the building and took shelter at their neighbour’s homes. The fire could be brought under control within an hour but by then it had gutted the office. None of the residents were however injured,” said a senior officer of Bidhannagar Commissionerate.
Police said, they have also sought the building owner and the car rental firm operator to come to the police station with relevant documents between Monday and Tuesday. “We will check the documents to find if the firm had the necessary fire safety clearance and mandatory fire safety arrangements at the office,” said the officer.
