Updated: 2012-05-25-14:19
A retired teacher was killed in a fire that razed a house in Alijis village in Bacolod City in Negros Occidental province Wednesday night.
Senior Fire Officer 2 Harry Fernandez identified the fatality as Florenda Rios Lastimoso, 74, of Block 6 Lot 6 DC3 Regent Pearl Homes Subdivision.
Lastimoso had taught at the Domingo Lacson National High School, according to a report on Visayan Daily Star Friday.
She succumbed to hypovelmic shock due to severe burns at the Bacolod Adventist Medical Center, the report said.
The report said the fire started at about 9 p.m. and was put out at 9:35 p.m. Arson investigators estimated the damage to property at P100,000.
An investigation showed the fire started at the room of Lastimoso where she was using a candle since electric power to her house was cut off.
Her neighbor, Neneng Cordero, said Lastimoso had been living alone since her children are in Manila and abroad.
Cordero was quoted in the report as saying Lastimoso’s relatives only visit her every weekend. — LBG, GMA News
