Updated: 2019–11–29
Three people were injured in a fire that broke out at a warehouse in an industrial zone in Hlaing Tharyar township in Yangon late Wednesday, the Yangon Fire Services Department said.
The injured people, including a 21-year-old worker and two firefighters, were brought to a hospital for treatment.
The 90-minute fire destroyed a two-storey steel structure that stored plastic rolls at Yuan Hing in Shwe Lin Pan industrial zone. The cost of the damage was estimated at K50 million (US$33,000), according to a fire investigator.
“A night-shift worker carelessly threw a cigarette on a pile of flammable material, which triggered the fire,” the investigator said.
Forty-three fire engines, 22 water boxers, nine support vehicles, eight supervision vehicles and four ambulances joined the effort to stop the fire, according to the Yangon Fire Services Department. – Translated
