Car catches fire in Banjara Hills, traffic hit
Updated: 2019–12–04
Hyderabad: On Tuesday, around 7.15pm, a car caught fire on Banjara Hills Road No. 2, forcing traffic cops to shut the stretch from Srinagar Colony circle to Nagarjuna Circle for around 30 minutes till the flames were doused. It appears that a spark in the engine caused the fire. There were no casualties.
A fire tender took around 15 minutes to reach the spot. By then the car was gutted. It took about 15 more minutes to completely douse the flames. As firefighters battled the blaze, traffic came to a standstill. Additional commissioner of police (traffic) Anil Kumar was among those stuck in traffic.
The driver, Sravan Kumar, was headed towards Punjagutta when he noticed spark and smoke from the engine of his Tata Indica sedan. Immediately, he stepped out of the car. “Within minutes the front portion of the car was on fire. Two people on a bike suggested that I put some sand to control the fire, but the flames were too high. I am still paying EMIs for the car,” said Kumar, a private cab driver.
