Fire Destroys 50-Year-Old Shop

PEKAN, May 25 (Bernama) — A fire destroyed a 50-year-old retail shop in Kampung Mengkasar here yesterday, causing loss estimated at RM760,000.
Shop owner Ismail Ibrahim, 37, his wife Norashikin Abdul Hamid, 39, and three employees were not injured in the incident that occurred at 4 pm.
“My wife and I were having our tea after taking delivery of kitchen supplies when we heard a small explosion in the store. Then, I saw fire spreading very quickly,” Ismail said.
Pekan Fire & Rescue operations chief Ab Rahman Safi said a 24 firemen rushed to the shop in three trucks and brought the fire under control in an hour.
“The cause of the fire is under investigation,” he said.
