Family flees as house razed by fire

SONGKHLA: A family fled to safety as their wooden house was burned to the ground in the middle of Chok Saman Community in the Hat Yai Municipality on Tuesday morning.
Pol Capt Chamlong Kongsawat, a Hat Yai police duty officer, said the fire began about 3am in soi 1 off Chok Saman 5 road.
The house was burning fiercely when four fire engines and a rescue unit arrived at the scene. They were able to prevent the flames spreading to nearby houses, and an hour later declared the fire out.
The wooden structure was destroyed. Nobody was hurt, police said.
Niphon Chansuwan, 40, the owner, said he, his wife and their three children were awoken by a loud noise and as flames spread through the house they ran out to safety. He managed to move his pickup away from the flames but three motorcycles, a sound system and other belongings were lost in the blaze.
