Fire breaks out at DPDC power station in Dhaka’s Rampura
Updated: 2020–Apr–11
The fire broke out at Mohanagar Project area of Ulan Road around 3:55pm on Saturday, according to Russel Sikder, duty officer at the fire service’s control room.
Seven units of the fire service brought the fire under control at 4:55pm in the 133/32 KV sub-station, he added.
“Ulan sub-station has three power sockets. The fire left a 35/50 KVM socket burnt. The other two are fine,” Shafiul Islam, Tejgaon Fire Station’s senior officer, said.
A resident of the neighbourhood said he heard a loud bang followed by a power cut. Later black smoke could be seen billowing up in the sky.
Asked how the fire may have occurred, Shafiul said, “Overheating of the machines could have caused the fire. But we can only confirm after the investigation is over. The extent of damage can also be determined then. No one was injured in the incident.”
DPDC Director of Operations, Md Harunur Rashid, told bdnews24.com that a transformer was on fire and flames were later doused. The power supply was back on within an hour and no further interruptions were expected, he said.
