AMBALA: In the thunderstorm that hit the region late night on Sunday, two factory units were gutted in separate fire incidents at Jatwar and Kesri villages in the Ambala district.

The Ambala police told that in both the incidents no injuries were reported.

In the first incident, a major fire broke out at around 9pm at a factory, Mint Science Chemical Refinery in Jatwar village of Panjokhra police station (PS) area, where a large quantity of ethanol was stored in plastic drums.

In the second incident, major fire broke out at around 9.30pm at a fabric unit of Partap Fabric Private Limited near Kesri village in Saha police station, due to unknown reasons.

The fire brigades were pumped into action from Ambala City, Ambala Cantonment, NaraingarhLadwa, and Shahabad to douse the flames and the firemen struggled for the whole night to complete the task.

Fire officials told both the units did not have ‘no objection certificate’ (NOC).

Ambala city fire officer Amar Singh who reached Jatwar village with four fire brigades said, “We received the information at around 9pm about the fire incident at Jatwar. Four fire brigades were deputed to douse the flames from Ambala City, Cantt, and Naraingarh. We managed to control the fire at 2.30am.

The factory reportedly manufactured hand sanitizer and a large quantity of ethanol was stored in plastic drums at this unit. We reached the spot, witnessed that fire is caused due to chemical which does not get doused with water; then we used chemical foam to douse the flames. As per our records, the unit at Jatwar did not have NOC.

Panjokhra SHO inspector Harbhajan Singh said, “The fire reportedly is caused due to natural lightning and it struck a chemical factory in Jatwar village. The factory owner also reached here and said that it was a godown which was locked during the lockdown. As per the preliminary investigation, multiple-purpose chemical was stored here and it is a matter of investigation that what was being manufactured here. No one got injured as the unit is deep into agriculture fields.

About the fire incident at Partap unit in Kesri village, Ambala Cantt fire officer Mahinder Singh told, “The fire brigades were deputed at around 9.45pm and we managed to control the fire in the morning at around 7.30am. Three fire brigades were deputed from Ambala Cantt, 2 each from Ambala City, Kurukshetra, and Ladwa and 1 each from Shahabad and military cantt.”

Mahinder added, “The Partap fabric unit at Kesri did not have NOC, and a similar fire in Partap’s another fabric unit was doused at Mohra village in November 2019.”
