Gas pipe catches fire at Jatrabari
Updated: 2012-05-13
A fire broke out from a crack developed in a gas pipeline near the under-construction Jatrabari flyover in the capital early Sunday.
However, no casualty was reported.
Fire brigade officials said the crack developed in the pipeline of Titas gas around 1:40am when the construction workers were conducting drilling operation for the flyover.
The fire originated from the cracked pipeline and went up high, causing a panic among the workers and local residents.
The flames also gutted a number of electric poles in the area.
Five fire fighting units from the headquarters and Postogola with the help of Titas gas officials brought the blaze under control after five hours of frantic efforts.
Fire brigade sources said Titas gas officials stopped supply of gas through the pipeline while extinguishing the flame to avoid disaster.
