Updated: 2020–06–16
SAMUT PRAKAN: A man was found dead inside a small house that burned down in a crowded slum community in Bang Phli district on Tuesday morning, police said.
The fire started about 6am in a single-storey wooden house in a community beside an ice factory in tambon Bang Phli Yai, Pol Capt Saharat Thiamthai, a Bang Phli duty officer, said.
A fire engine and crew from the Bang Phli Yai tambon administration organisation took about an hour to put out the blaze. The house was burned to the ground.
The charred body of a man was found in the burned timbers. He was identified as Jaroon Khemphet, 63.
His wife Aroon, who was sleeping in an adjoining house with four other people, said she was woken by the sound of people shouting and saw the adjacent house where her husband was sleeping was in flames.
She could not enter the house to help him because it was locked from inside.
Police were investigating the cause of the fire.
