Plastic factory in Narela gutted

Updated: 2012-12-02-12:38

NEW DELHI: A plastic factory located in a multi-storey building in the industrial hub of Narela got engulfed in a major fire on Saturday. The fire began around midnight and firefighters and disaster management teams rushed to the spot to start rescue work. Police are probing the reason for the fire.

Omkar Tyagi, fire officer, confirmed that there were no casualties and 10 fire engines had reached the spot to douse the flames. “No deaths were reported in the fire. However, the loss to the factory cannot be estimated as of now,” Tyagi said.

The factory is situated in a densely populated area and could have proved hazardous to several lives.

The fire disaster management officer, Ajit Srivastav, reported that the some of the fire engines were held in traffic on the highway leading to the site.

“The road leading to the site of the fire from Karnal bypass was blocked due to traffic and that turned out to be a major problem for us. Our fire tenders got stuck in the jam. Even though the traffic police tried to disperse the traffic to give us easy access, movement was very slow and fire tenders had difficulty reaching the spot,” he said.
