Thai woman burned alive in house fire

Updated: 20200908

Surat: The burnt body of a Thai woman who had been working at a massage parlour and spa in the Indian city of Surat, Gujarat state, has been found after a fire at her home.

Waninda Bousorn, 27, died next to her mattress on the floor of the ground-floor rented flat in the suburb of Magdalla. The mattress was completely destroyed but another bed in the same room did not catch fire.

The Indian website www.timesnownews.com reported that Ms Waninda came from Roi Et, where she used to work and where her husband and son still live.

She had been alone for two days after her roommate went on a trip to the city of Bharuch, 70km away.

A friend of hers had visited her on Saturday, but left at around 10pm after having dinner.

Locals have told police that three people then visited the house at about 1.30am on Sunday, arriving in a Toyota Innova car.

When some neighbours noticed the fire, they informed the house owner, but people living below Ms Waninda on the ground floor said they knew nothing about it until a few hours later.

A police officer said the fire might have been caused by an electrical fault and that the woman might have reacted slowly because she was “under the influence of an intoxicating substance”.
