Fire breaks out at Odisha Covid hospital, all patients safe
Updated: 2020–09–21
BHUBANESWARu002FCUTTACK: At least 127 Covid-infected patients were evacuated from Sadguru Covid hospital in Jagatpur area of Cuttack following a fire mishap on Monday. While no casualty was reported, the government promptly ordered an inquiry to know about the cause of the fire in the private hospital, which did not possess a mandatory fire safety certificate.
The hospital treats both Covid and non-Covid patients. The fire broke out in the Covid ward of the hospital’s first floor around 12.30 pm. Prima facie, fire services officials said the spark originated following an electric short circuit in an AC of the ICU. “Authorities of the hospital promptly responded. Their firefighting system worked properly due to which they could douse the fire before the arrival of our personnel. Smoke had engulfed the premises. Our personnel cleared the smoke to prevent patients from suffocation and immediately evacuated the patients,” director general (fire services) Satyajit Mohantysaid.
