A fabric warehouse and thread processing factory in the capital’s Dangkor district was destroyed by a fire early on Wednesday, the National Police’s fire department said.
Neth Vantha, director of the municipal fire department, said the warehouse caught fire at about 12am.
By 5pm, police had still not yet ended operations to extinguish it, he said. The warehouse in Prey Sar commune measured 25m by 25m and was covered with zinc and full of fabric.
“Hundreds of cubic metres of fabric was collected and bought from various garment factories in Cambodia for processing here. The warehouse suffered total damage,” he said, adding that no one was injured in the blaze which did not spread to nearby homes.
Vantha could not reveal the cause of the fire. But he said that as of 5:30pm on Wednesday, police forces from the municipal fire department and forces from other fire units had brought it under control.
He said specialist forces were continuing to collaborate to dig out burned pieces of fabric and spray water on them to prevent the fire from reigniting.
