Updated: 2020–03–02
AHMEDABAD: Yogesh Prajapati, 50, of Suryaratna Society in Sola, was charred to death after his hatchback car caught fire near Mother Dairy in Gandhinagar on Sunday afternoon.
Fire department sources said that prima facie it appears that the car caught fire because of short-circuit. The doors of the car got locked and Prajapati, who owned a petrol pump, could not get out of the burning car.
Adalaj police sources said that the car was destroyed and it was difficult to identify the body. “The victim was eventually identified based on the registration number of the car,” a police source said. “The details available are that Prajapati took a turn from Apollo Circle towards Indira Bridge and just opposite Mother Dairy his car suddenly caught fire,” the source said. Police said that according to fire officials, when the wires of the car caught fire, the remote-controlled doors got locked.
“We have sent the body for the postmortem examination and have registered a case of accidental death,” an Adalaj police official said. “We have sought help of forensic experts to determine the reason for the fire.”
In another case, a van caught fire near the flower market at the end of Sardar Bridge at about 7.30pm on Sunday.
“While the reason of the fire is yet to be ascertained, nobody was injured,” said a fire official. According to sources, the van was travelling from the NID side of the bridge to the other end when smoke started billowing from the engine.
.“The driver, Ghanshyam Thakkar, immediately got off the vehicle, which was engulfed in flames in minutes,” said a fire official.
