Ahmedabad: Transporter dies after his car catches fire

AHMEDABAD: A 35-year-old man was charred to death when the car he was driving caught fire near Hathijan Circle on the outskirts of Ahmedabad on Monday morning.
The deceased was identified as Manoj Soni, a resident of Shraddha Pioneer flats in Hathijan, said an official of Vivekanandnagar police station.
The victim, a transporter by profession, was identified based on the registration number of the car and later his family was informed about the incident.
Primary investigations revealed that the victim got trapped in the car after got locked automatically due to the fire, police said.
The incident took place at around 10am when Soni was returning to his home from a fuel pump in Hathijan, said deputy superintendent of police Kamal Kamaria.
“Onlookers told us that Soni went to a petrol pump from where he got diesel for his sedan car and was returning to his home. Suddenly people spotted smoke coming out of his car,” said Kamaria.
People tried to douse the flames with water to save Soni. Some of them also called up the fire brigade which manage to put off the fire but by them, Soni was charred to death.
“People broke the rear door of his car and took out his body with great difficulty as it was stuck between the driver’s seat and airbags,” said Kamaria.
The police have sent the body to Civil hospital in the Asarwa area for post-mortem and a team of forensic experts are also called for further investigation.
Vivekanandnagar police have registered a case of accidental death.
