Massive fire breaks out at chemical unit

ODHPUR: A major fire broke out at a chemical unit in Jodhpur’s Basni Industrial area on Saturday afternoon.
On account of the presence of the inflammable chemical and gas cylinders, the fire escalated so fast that it engulfed the entire unit in a whiff and reached the adjacent units. About two dozen fire tenders from various fire stations including those of the Air Force and State Disaster Response Force continued the operation till late evening to douse the fire. According to information, Rajasthan Coating and Chemicals, located at Road no.10 in Basni Industrial Area, caught fire suddenly at about 4.15pm and in no time, the entire unit was engulfed in fire. Police said the combustible nature of chemicals present in the factory acted as catalysts to the fire.
Explosions in gas cylinders in the unit razed a major part of the unit and caused damage to adjacent handicraft and bangle units. No loss to life was reported.
