Fire breaks out at factory making oil from used tyres in Musalgaon

Nashik Road : were pressed into service, but the fire raged for close to five hours. Fire officials confirmed that although there was no loss of life, there was huge loss of raw material. The fire struck at a unit engaged in making oil used for industrial purposes from used tyres.
The Malegaon fire department got a call around 3.45 am that a fire had broken out at Janardhan Fuel in Musalgaon industrial area. Sub fire-officer PK Chaudhary of the Malegaon fire department said, “We rushed a fire tender to Musalgaon and started dousing the fire. However, given the huge shape the fire was taking, fire tenders from Nashik Road, Sangmner and Sinnar Municipal Council were also called.”
Fire-fighting work continued from 4.15 am to close to 8 am, said Chaudhary, adding that 25 fire fighters from different fire stations struggled to extinguish the fire. Water tankers were also pressed into service.
The loss of property was estimated at about Rs 2.25 crore, said Ramesh Mali, director of Janardhan Fuel, which is engaged in making oil from waste tyres. There were 40 to 45 workers at the firm when the fire erupted. Mali said the workers had gone to sleep after finishing work. Mali said wood-fire is used in the process of making the oil. A spark from it may have flown to the raw material, creating the blaze.
The factory is spread over two acres. Mali said that the main shed of the company was intact and only the raw material, comprising used tyres, was destroyed. The compound wall of the factory and the distribution point (DP) of electricity supply was also affected.
