Updated: 2019–05–14
VADODARA: Citizens living near sub-registrar’s office in Akota had a frightful moment during wee hours of Monday when a hatchback car coming at a high speed from Old Padra Road collided with a parked van triggering fire in both cars. The three commuters travelling in the car had a narrow escape.
According to the eye-witnesses, the driver of the car, which is believed to be newly bought, lost control over his vehicle and collided with the parked van around 2.30 am. The car was being driven at such a high speed that it dragged the parked van for several feet till it crashed into an electric distribution panel. Within few minutes sparks were noticed in one of the cars. The commuters travelling in the hatchback car quickly got out and went away in an auto-rickshaw.
“Eye-witnesses told the firemen that a couple and a small girl got out of the car when sparks were witnessed. They went away immediately in an auto-rickshaw and have not turned up yet,” said fire officer I I Sheikh from Dandiya Bazaar fire station.
Later, both cars were engulfed in flames but a major disaster was averted as the LPG kit in the van did not explode and the flames of the cars did not touch the electric distribution panel. The parked van belonged to one Manu Shah who turned up when the firemen were dousing the flames.
