Updated: 2019–05–15
AURANGABAD: As many as five garages in Chikalthana area caught fire on Monday midnight reducing 26 vehicles to ashes.
All these vehicles had come to the garages for repair. Some of the garages had stored colours in their workshops due to which the fire spread further and engulfed the neighbouring set-ups as well.
The estimated loss in this incident has been estimated into several lakhs of rupees and the process of gathering documents from car owners and recording statements of the garage owners is underway.
MIDC Cidco police station inspector Surendra Malale told TOI, “Prima facie short circuit appears to be the reason for the fire that engulfed five garages.”
“Though there has been an estimated loss running in to several lakhs, there has been no loss of human life,” he added.
After the fire broke out, a message was passed on to the police control room that alerted the fire department. Chikalthana fire station in-charge Sanjay Kadam said that it took over three hours to douse the flames and prevent the blaze from spreading further.
Five fire tenders had to be deployed at the spot, majority of the vehicles, having fuel in their tanks, had caught fire.
A garage owner has claimed that the estimated loss of all the garages is well over Rs1 crore.
