Fire razes 50 houses in Cebu, firefighter injured
Updated: 2013-06-27-22:16
At least 30 houses were razed while one firefighter was injured after a fire of undetermined origin hit a residential area in Cebu City Thursday afternoon.
No one was initially reported injured in the fire that started at Barangay Calamba in Cebu City past 3 p.m., radio dzBB’s Cebu affiliate Orchids Lapincao reported.
The report said arson investigators are still determining what caused the fire, which reached Task Force Alpha before it was placed under control as of 6 p.m.
A separate report on “24 Oras” said firefighters had a hard time getting to the area because the houses, which were made of light materials, were closely bunched together.
Firefighters had to link their hoses together so their sprays and bursts of water could reach the flames.
One of the firefighters initially identified as SFO1 Omar Segovia sustained a wound in the back, the report said.
The report quoted a local barangay official as saying 50 families were affected. It added the fire was under control shortly after 4 p.m. — ELR, GMA News
