Updated: 2019–06–20
GHAZIABAD: Five members of a family, including a pregnant woman, had a narrow escape, after a fire broke out in a house in Sector 5, Rajnagar on Wednesday.
According to police, the incident took place around 2pm on Wednesday when due to the short circuit in an AC a fire broke out and engulfed the first floor of the house. The house belongs to a Ghaziabad businessman Kailash Chand Goyal. The three-storey building has 12 rooms, and at th time of the incident five people were present inside the house. However, all of them managed to escape.
“At the time of incident, Goyal’s daughter-in-law Amrita, who is pregnant, was sleeping in the room that caught the fire first," said Anil Goyal, younger brother of Kailash Chand. “When she woke up, she found that her room was full of smoke. She then informed other family members,” he added.
Sunil Kumar Singh, chief fire officer (CFO) of Ghaziabad, told TOI that the fire department got information about the incident around 2.10pm and two fire tenders were rushed to the spot.
“It took us over 30 minutes to control the flames because of the flammable material used to decorate the building’s interiors,” Singh added.
“Valuables worth over Rs 10 lakhs was gutted in the fire,” Goyal said.
