Updated: 2019–06–21
NEW DELHI: A major fire broke out at the furniture market near Kalindi Kunj metro station on Friday morning. Officials said 15 fire tenders were pressed into service and the blaze has been doused. No casualties were reported in the incident.
Metro services between Kalindi Kunj and Botanical Garden had to be stopped due to the fire, but they have resumed now.
Assistant divisional officer, Delhi Fire Service, Mehmood said, “The SOS came at 5.25am regarding the fire in the furniture market. We have managed to douse the fire now. Pillar number 205 and 206 have been damaged due to the fire. A team of Delhi Metro officials is reviewing the situation.”
Officials said the fire had spread rapidly since a large amount of wooden and plastic material were stored in the area.
Some of the houses in the area had to be evacuated by the fire department and the police to prevent any mishap.
