Close shave for 6 passengers as car catches fire below Agara flyover

Updated: 20190625

BENGALURU: It was a narrow escape for six people after the car they were travelling in caught fire underneath the Agara flyover southeast Bengaluru, on Monday.

The car passengers evacuated the vehicle in the nick of time after noticing a burning smell emanating from the AC vent. Soon flames began leaping out of the bonnet area.

According to fire and emergency services officials, they received a complaint about the fire in the car around 5.20pm. A fire tender was rushed to the spot and the blaze was doused by 5.40pm.

HSR Layout police said the car — Chevrolet Enjoy, a MPV — was being driven by Shivanna, a businessman and resident of Dommasandra. He was returning home with his friends and family members from Jayanagar when the incident took place.

We’ve taken up a case and the cause for the fire will be revealed in further course of probe by experts,” said HSR Layout police. According to RTO documents, the vehicle was registered at Electronics City RTO on August 30, 2016.

Police said the incident drew a huge crowd, resulting in a traffic jam under the flyover for a few minutes. Police managed to disperse the crowd and make way for vehicular movements.
