Two children among seven hurt in outer Delhi fire

NEW DELHI: Seven people, including two children , were hospitalised after suffering burn injuries in a major fire in outer Delhi’s Narela early on Wednesday. The victims were sleeping inside a general store and got trapped in it.
Chief fire officer of Delhi Fire Service, Atul Garg, said that they were informed about the fire at 4.39am from Punjabi Colony in Narela. The firefighting operation was concluded after two hours. The injured have been identified as Satpal (22), Amarjeet (23), Bhagwan Swaroop (25), Ayush (8), Vijay (4), Mahesh (16) and Raja Ram (15). Swaroop is in a critical condition after suffering 80% burns.
A preliminary probe has revealed that the fire started in four electricity meter boards due to short-circuit. It quickly spread to the adjoining general store where the victims were sleeping. The firefighters broke open the doors and windows and rescued them.
In another incident, seven people were pulled out from a burning building in Ranjeet Nagar when a fire broke out on its second floor. The incident occurred around 8pm on Wednesday and four fire tenders and a hydraulic crane were sent to the spot. The trapped victims were successfully pulled out and the blaze was brought under control by 9.45pm.
