Major fire breaks out at Ambala’s New Grain Market

AMBALA: A major fire broke out at Ambala‘s New Grain Market shed number 3 in the wee hours of Sunday. Wheat, maize and jute sacks worth around Rs 3 crore were gutted in the fire.
Fire brigades and earthmoving machines from Kurukshetra, Kaithal, Nariangarh, Ambala, Panchkula have been deployed to douse the flames.
“The fire is suspected to have broken out at shed number 3 of Ambala’s Grain Market due to an electric short circuit as it was raining. Further investigation is being done. Around 20 quintal maize, 1,500 quintal wheat and 2500 bales of jute sacks were destroyed”, said Ved Pal Malik, district manager of HAFED.
“The fire station received a message of the incident at 4.20am and fire brigade vehicles were rushed immediately. The grains and sacks, destroyed in the fire, belonged to HAFED and exact loss is being ascertained”, said Satindar Siwatch, Ambala municipal corporation joint commissioner.
