Fire destroys multiple furniture stores, dental hospital in Nepalgunj

NEPALGUNJ: At least a dozen stores burnt to cinders when fire caused by a short-circuit spread in BP Chok of Nepalgunj, Banke district on Thursday night.
According to Police Inspector Bharat Singh Rathore at Banke District Police Office (DPO), the short-circuit caused at around 11:00 pm in a shanty used as a furniture store and warehouse resulted in the massive fire in BP Chok.
Furniture wood and other inflammable substances at the store boosed the fire which easily spread to other stores nearby. The fire was brought under control today morning at around 5:00 — six hours after the fire began — with the help of five fire engines, including two of Nepalgunj Sub-Metropolis and one each from Ranjha Airport, Kohalpur Municipality and neighbouring Bardiya district.
As many as 12 stores, majority of which are furniture stores, and a dental clinic were completely destroyed due to the fire. Preliminary investigation shows that properties worth more than Rs 40 million have been destroyed, said police. Details of loss are still being collected in the incident site and full report of the damage will soon be known, added police.
Embers of the burnt down wood are still seen around the site and are being removed using bulldozers of Nepalgunj Sub-Metropolis. More fire engines are still on stand-by.
Further investigation is underway.
