ATM kiosk catches fire in Kannad
Updated: 2019–08–24
AURANGABAD: An ATM kiosk in the Mondha area of Kannad taluka of Aurangabad rural caught fire on Friday afternoon, sparking panic in the town that is situated about 60 km from here.
It took more than 30 minutes for the fire brigade to bring the fire under control, but not before the entire cabin was reduced to ashes. The cash in the machine is, however, expected to be safe.
Sources in the State Bank of India, which operates the ATM, said the possibility of the cash catching fire is remote because it is kept in a metal box with multiple layers in the dispensing machine.
The fire at the ATM, situated outside the town’s main branch of SBI, attracted a huge crowd. Paithan police later registered a case of accidental fire and launched a probe.
The total amount of cash in the ATM and whether it was damaged could besides the cause of fire not be ascertained till late in the evening.
Paithan police inspector Ramehwar Renge could not be reached for comment on the issue despite repeated attempts.
