Mumbai: 57 passengers of state transport bus escape as vehicle catches fire

MUMBAI: As many as 57 passengers who were going to Konkan from Mumbai for Ganesh festival in a state transport (ST) bus had a narrow escape as the bus caught fire and was gutted on Sunday morning.
The incident occurred on Mumbai-Goa highway at around 7 am. The passengers were on their way to their native place in Ratnagiri.
Sources said the bus was evacuated within minutes after which it was engulfed in flames. The luggage of some of the passengers was also got charred in the fire.
The incident led to traffic snarls on the Mumbai-Goa highway.
MSRTC spokesperson Abhijit Bhosale said, “We arranged for another bus to ferry the commuters who were stranded on the way to their destination.”
