POLICE ARREST 4 MORE SUSPECTS OVER RIAU FIRES

Riau Police said on Friday that they had arrested four more suspects for illegally setting fires on forested land and bushes in Riau province, which has caused a thick haze of smog choking parts of Indonesia, Singapore and Malaysia.
“The total number of suspects arrested is 18 after the four new arrests on Thursday,” Riau Police spokesman Adj. Sr. Comr. Hermansyah said as quoted by Antara news agency on Friday.
Of the 18 suspects, Hermansyah said, two of them, identified only as S and H, had been arrested for burning hundreds of hectares of land in Bengkalis regency.
Then in Rokan Hilir regency, 11 suspects were arrested for their role in four different cases. In Pelalawan regency, he said, two people were arrested for their involvement in one case and in Siak regency, one person was detained for another case.
“The last arrests took place in Dumai city, where two people were detained for two cases,” Hermansyah said. (hrl)
