Bengaluru: Fire breaks out in UCO Bank branch, no casualties

BENGALURU: A fire broke out in a UCO Bank branch at MG Road in Bengaluru on Wednesday afternoon at around 2.40 pm. The multi-storey building that houses several working places, a training institute, witnessed people rushing to safety.
As thick smoke was emanating from the ground floor of the building, a wave of panic swept the crowd and people started running from the building.
Many stood near the windows of first, second floors of the building seeking help, and the passers-by were seen shouting, asking them not to jump as the fire tenders were on the way.
Fire tenders reached the spot and officials made sure that all the persons in the building were evacuated by around 3.10 pm.
Nageshwar Narayan, an eyewitness who visited UCO Bank for some work said that the fire was first noticed around 2.55 pm in the lift located on the ground floor of the building.
Three girls who were stuck in the UCO Bank building were evacuated and rushed to Bowring and Lady Curzon hospital. “All the three have wheezing problem as they probably inhaled smoke. No burn injuries were seen,” said the hospital spokesperson.
