Constable receives burn injuries after fire breaks out in petrol pump

Updated: 20190920

BAREILLY: A head constable of UP Police, Surendra Singh, had to be admitted to hospital with 30% burn injuries after he was burnt at a petrol pump in Dalpatpur, Moradabad. Police said the constable, a Pilibhit native, was deputed to a Dial 100 PRV. He had entered the petrol pump to use its restroom when a fire broke out from a short circuit leaving him with burns.

Police said the PRV (number 247) was deployed in the area under Munda Pandey police station. Singh, who needed to relieve himself, noticed the petrol pump on Kashipur road in Dalpatpur and went in to use its restroom.

As soon as he switched on the light inside the restroom, there was a spark which led to a fire, igniting leaked gasoline in the air. Cops said there is some gasoline in the air there because pressure of gasoline is very high due to proximity of the fuel filling points to the restroom.

The petrol pump staff immediate applied fire extinguishers to douse the flames, while Singh’s colleagues in the PRV rushed him to the district hospital, where doctors treated him and declared he is out of danger.
