Fire near residential locality in Jaipur creates panic, doused after 2 hours

JAIPUR: At least 10 shops were gutted in a fire near Gopal Bari here on Tuesday evening triggering panic among people living on Kalwar Scheme road opposite Jaipur railway station’s main line towards Gandhi Nagar. A dozen fire tenders tok almost two hours to douse the blaze. No casualty or injury was reported as shopkeepers and others walked out after spotting the flames.
According to Jaipur fire office, the blaze broke out at 5.15 pm when people in the chemical and auto parts shops were doing their routine jobs. The adjoining shops and hotels were evacuated while a large number of onlookers assembled at the spot.
Firemen and police evacuated the nearby buildings and ensured that the fire did not spread to Gopal Bari residential localities. To prevent damage, power supply in the area was stopped until the fire was doused.
“These were small shops in which various things varying from chemicals, engine oil and auto parts were sold. The cause of fire was yet to be ascertained,” police said.
