Fire razes long-standing Naga dept store, at least P10M in property destroyed
Updated: 2013-07-05-04:01
At least P10 million in property was destroyed while classes at a nearby school were suspended after a fire razed an old department store in Naga City, Camarines Sur before dawn Thursday.
No one was initially reported injured in the fire at the Masters Square department store and grocery, radio dzBB reported.
Due to the thick smoke, classes in the elementary and high school levels at the nearby University of Nueva Caceres were suspended for the day. College classes were not suspended, however.
According to a department store security guard, there was an explosion near the store’s electrical systems.
An initial investigation showed the fire started shortly after 3 a.m., and was declared out as of 8:30 a.m.
Investigators estimated the loss in grocery items alone was worth P10 million. Arson investigators are still determining what caused the fire.
The gutted department store is one of the oldest in the city, the report said. — DVM, GMA News
