NEW DELHI: Three women were killed and five others, including a fireman, sustained injuries after a fire broke out in the kitchen of a flat in North West Delhi’s Shalimar Bagh area on Saturday evening.
The firefighter suffered injuries while he was trying to break the window panes to rescue the trapped children inside the house.
According to the fire department, a call regarding the fire was received around 6pm.
Eight fire tenders were rushed to the spot and it took about two-and-a-half-hour to douse the flame.
“The fire started from the kitchen on the ground floor and the flat was found locked. It quickly spread to the first and the second floor. An elderly woman was rescued from the first floor while five people were removed from the second floor and rushed to the hospital,” said Atul Garg, Director, Delhi Fire Service.
