Updated: 2019–12–28
MUMBAI: A chemical fire broke out in a godown at Khairani, Saki Naka, on Friday evening. Firemen used nine fire engines and one water tanker to control the blaze. The godown in Aashapura Compound stored chemicals. No injuries were reported.
Power supply in the vicinity of the compound was disconnected as a safety precaution. Buildings in the vicinity were vacated as thick smoke spread in the area.
The fire brigade called chemical firefighting systems used by oil refinery companies. They tried to demolish an adjoining structure to prevent the flames from spreading to other commercial structures.
Officials said that no one was trapped or injured in the blaze. It had spread to around 35 ground-plus-one and ground-plus-two godowns.
Senior fire officials were monitoring the situation at the spot. Firefighting was still in progress at the time of going to press, but firemen had managed to control the flames from spreading.
