Updated: 2020–01–01
HYDERABAD: In a freak mishap, a car and two petrol dispensing machines were completely damaged after the car caught fire at a petrol pump in Shaikpet area. No one was injured in the incident.
The fire control room received an alert at 2.06pm about the fire accident which took place at an Indian Oil petrol pump at Shaikpet.
According to police, the Skoda Superb car 2010 model came to the petrol pump to fill petrol. While filling the tank, one of the pump staff noticed fuel leak from the car tank and immediately stopped the filling. The driver of the car, Basheer Ahmed from Hakeempet opened the rear seat to check.
“Suddenly a fire broke out from the bottom of the car. Within seconds, it spread to the car and two fuel dispensing cabins at the petrol pump. All the staff and the car driver escaped seeing the flames,” said station fire officer, Chandra Shekhar. A fire tender and a mist bullet were put in place.
“The car and the fuel dispensing cabins were completely damaged. Though it took us less than 10 minutes to douse the fire, by that time, it had already spread. The firefighters prevented it to spread any further,” the officer added. The property damage is yet to be calculated, but officials suspect it could be over Rs 10 lakh.
