Updated: 2020–02–07
MADURAI: A fire broke out in the campus of a government primary school near Kovilpatti in Tuticorin district on Wednesday evening, destroying books and supplies. However, the school students remained unhurt.
The fire broke out at the library room in Kayathar government primary school in Asoor. Residents noticed smoke coming from the school and immediately informed the school authorities. Upon opening and inspecting the school, it was found that a fire was spreading inside the library room. With the help from residents, the fire was soon extinguished. Around 50 students study in Classes I to V at the primary school, taught by a teacher and a headmaster. The Kayathar police have registered a case. Since there was no electric wiring that could have caused a fire, the police suspect that miscreants might have caused the fire.
