One dead, one injured in plastic recycling unit fire in Ludhiana’s Jugiana

 LUDHIANA: A factory worker died and another was injured in a major fire incident in a plastic recycling unit in LudhianaJugiana area on late Thursday night.  

 

The factory worker who was injured in the incident was rushed to the hospital, but nobody was aware of one more worker inside. The fire fighters claimed that they were not informed about another person inside the unit. After controlling the fire early in the morning, they came back but didnt see the body of the worker due to darkness. The fire tenders found the dead body when the fire had spread again in the morning and they rushed to the spot to douse it.  

 

The fire officials claimed that at around 11.30pm they had received information about the incident and fire tenders from Focal Point, Gill Road, central fire station and Hambran Road fire stations were sent to the spot. The fire had spread at the ground floor of the unit while at first floor around 20 workers were given accommodation. The factory workers noticed the fire first of all and raised the alarm. One factory worker, Sonu Chaudhary was taken out in injured condition as he had received burns at his hands and feet. He was taken to the nearest hospital for treatment.  

 

Meanwhile, the firemen controlled the situation with the help of 20 rounds of fire tenders. They came back at around 4am but in the morning again fire tenders were sent to spot as fire spread again. The dead worker has been identified as 22-year-old Neeraj Chaudhary.  

 

The fire station officer SN Sharma said that the fire had come under control in 4 to 5 hours but they were not informed about anybody inside. He said dead body was noticed in the morning and then it was taken out. He said factory owner had not made satisfactory arrangements as a few fire extinguishers were there but water supply was not available for which they had to send fire tenders to Apollo Hospital at Sherpur Chowk.
