Nashik: Fire at ginning mill guts cotton stocks
Updated: 2020–02–14
NASHIK: A cotton ginning mill in Malegaon city of Nashik district, which broke out at around 11 am, burnt down nearly 11,000 quintal of cotton.
Seven fire tenders of the Malegaon Municipal Corporation rushed to the spot within a few minutes of being informed. It took them nearly two hours to control the raging blaze
Fire officials said that the exact reason for the fire is yet to be ascertained.
“The stock of cotton was kept in an open space within the mill’s premises. After the fire started, the mill workers quickly managed to shifted about 10,000 quintal. But the remaining stock was gutted,” added the officials.
Some civic officials said the fire could have been started by some lighted material like a cigarette. The local police would carry out a panchnama of the incident to ascertain the exact volume of destroyed cotton and the cause of the fire.
According to some local residents, the entire area where the mill is located was engulfed in thick smoke.
“When we reached the spot, the mill building was invisible through the thick smoke. We also helped the fire officials in controlling the blaze,” said Jainuddin Mansuri, a local politician.
