Death toll in Kappalur fire accident rises to four

MADURAI: The death toll in the Kappalur fire accident which took place on Monday has risen to four after one more person who was undergoing treatment in government Rajaji hospital, succumbed to burn injuries on Saturday.
Police sources said that A Karthick, 24, the fourth victim, could not be saved by doctors despite the best possible treatment. The fire accident took place in a temporary shed where petrol and diesel pilfered from trucks were kept.
It caught fire from a stove used for cooking. Six persons were present in the shed, playing carrom board when the incident happened.
While P Ganesan, 40, died on the spot, five people were admitted to the hospital. The shed owner identified as M Asaithambi, 50, and R Vijayakumar, 35, succumbed to injuries on Tuesday and Thursday respectively. V Arumugam, 66, is being treated in the hospital.
A case was registered against Asaithambi under IPC section 304 (II) – culpable homicide not amounting to murder.
