Andhra Pradesh: Two toddlers burnt to death in Guntur

VIJAYAWADA: Two toddlers died after a fire broke out at their house at Chakrayapalli hamlet under Bollapalli mandal in Guntur district on Wednesday. The deceased were identified as Mudavat Krupabai (3) and her cousin Mudavat Sivanaik (2).
According to Vinukonda rural inspector MV Subbarao, the incident happened after a petrol can kept in the verandah of the house caught fire from a wooden stove while the kids were playing near it.
Mudavat Sambasiva Naik, the father of Sivanaik, runs a general store in which he also sells petrol in loose.
Though the shop was located a few metres away from the house, a 20-litre petrol can having few litres of fuel was kept in the veranda.
Krupabai, while playing in the house, accidentally tripped over the petrol can which started leaking the fuel and caught fire. Sivanaik’s mother and their neighbours rushed to rescue the kids. Though they managed to put of the fire but it was too late by then.
While Krupabai died on the spot, Sivanaik died while being shifted to Piduguralla for treatment. A case has been registered under section 174 of CrPC for accidental death and further investigation was still underway
