Updated: 2020–03–06
HYDERABAD: At least sixty seized vehicles which were kept parked for days, were gutted after a fire broke out at Goshamahal Stadium in the early hours of Friday.
The fire broke out at around 4.30am, said fire officials.
“Hundreds of vehicles are kept in that stadium which was seized by the cops. Some have been kept for months,” said station fire officer, Rajkumar.
In one of the corners of the stadium, the fire broke out. Official suspect, a spark in high tension wire could have triggered the fire. “There is high tension wire crossing that part of the stadium where the incident occurred. Due to a spark, we suspect the blaze erupted. The dry grass on the vehicles immediately caught fire,” added the official.
Nearly 35 two-wheelers, 10 to 15 cars and around 10 three-wheelers were gutted in the fire. Four fire tenders were put in place, and it took over three hours to completely douse the flame.
“We reached and contained the fire, preventing it to spread to our vehicles which were parked. The property loss is yet to be confirmed, we estimate around Rs 20 lakh property damage,” said another fire officer.
